What does Feng Shui mean?
Feng Shui means 'wind' 'water' and refers to the two forces in nature that can literally shape our environment. Before our modern day towns and cities there was a time when we had much greater choice about where we could live and build settlements. The art, or science, of Feng Shui was used initially, to locate the ideal positioning of buildings or settlements to sustain and nurture life, using meticulous and exacting techniques to ensure that not only the basic and vital needs to support life were met: protection from the elements, fresh water and fertile ground, but that the area was safe from any detrimental earth radiations. The Feng Shui practitioner would oversee decisions about a buildings orientation, construction materials and end use.
What is Feng Shui's relevance today?
There are many natural elements which continually influence our spaces and which, in large part, are ignored today. For example: what direction does the building face and is the direction appropriate for its use? a bright sunny 'active' room in the South would be harder to sleep in than the North.
In a buildings construction what materials have been used and what unseen effect might they be having on our health?
What effect might the shape of the building have on us, consciously or other wise?
Are there any detrimental earth radiations such as Radon Gas affecting the area?
Are we being mindful of the influence of colour on our emotional state? and what does the placement, choice and depiction of our artwork and decorative objects say about us?
Feng Shui has some answers to these questions.
